Trans-Caspian International Transport Route Strengthens Cooperation with Southern European Countries

On September 21, 2021, the first visit of the International Association "Trans-Caspian International Transport Route" (Middle Corridor) was organized to Italy.

As part of this trip, a meeting was held with representatives of the Port System Authority of the Central Tyrrhenian Sea, aggregating the ports of Napoli, Salerno, and Castellammare di Stabia. So, on September 21, 2021, Leila Batyrbekova, Deputy Secretary General of the TITR Association, held meetings with Mr. Andrea Annunziata, Chairman of the Port System Authority of the Central Tyrrhenian Sea, Mr. Giuseppe Grimaldi Secretary General, and Ms. Barbara Casolla, Head of Marketing, Customer Service and Promotion Department.

During this meeting, the representative of the TITR Association introduced information on the current state and development plans of the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (Middle Corridor), discussed the existing regular transportation of tomato paste from China to Italy (through the ports of Naples and Salerno) along the TITR route (70 container trains, starting in 2017). In addition, the prospects for future transportation of other types of cargo in the Europe - China - Europe route and opportunities for cooperation with the TITR Association were discussed.

Representatives of the Port System Authority of the Central Tyrrhenian Sea came up with the information about the current state and needs of the Italian as well as the European transport market, their interest in ensuring the shortest possible time for the transportation of goods between Europe and Asia, and also expressed their desire for a wider use of the services of the TITR (Middle Corridor) route in the framework of servicing the cargo communications between the countries of Southern Europe and China, Kazakhstan and the countries of Central Asia.

The visit that took place confirmed the great potential and mutual interest in working on joint projects of the TITR participants and the transport and logistics sector of Italy in the future. The Port System Authority of the Central Tyrrhenian Sea and the TITR Association will continue to study the issue of increasing the traffic of other types of cargo from China, Kazakhstan and Central Asian countries to Europe through the ports of Naples and Salerno, as well as in the opposite direction.

In addition, within the framework of the visit, the representative of the TITR Association also met with Marco Politi, Vice President of DBA GROUP S.p.A. providing software applications for the digitalization of logistic processes and ports operations, and discussed the need to intensify work on the digitalization of the TITR route and the already implemented part of the project to interface the key section on the Caspian Sea (Aktau Port / Port Kuryk - Baku Port).
