Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan and China have established a joint venture to build a new intermodal cargo terminal in the Baku port at the 29th UN Climate Change Conference in Baku.
The agreement was signed by Chairman of the Board of Kazakhstan Railways JSC Nurlan Sauranbayev, Director General of Baku International Sea Trade Port CJSC Taleh Ziyadov and Director General of Xi’an Free Trade Port Construction and Operation Co Ltd Yuan Xiaojun.
The project includes the creation and development of the infrastructure of an intermodal cargo terminal on a 40-hectare site in the Baku port in the Alyat settlement.
The initiative was made possible by the provision by the Azerbaijani side of a land plot, existing berths and terminal capacities of the Alyat port. The project will serve to increase the volume of container trains on the China-Europe-China route via the TITR, reduce delivery times, reduce transportation costs and transshipment time.
It is noted that the construction of a new intermodal cargo terminal on the territory of the Baku International Sea Trade Port is planned to be completed in 2025.
